What this calculation tells you
Simple interest uses the original principal for every period. It does not add interest back to the balance for the purpose of calculating future interest. That distinction makes it useful for checking straightforward interest illustrations.
Enter the time in years: six months is 0.5 years. If an agreement instead uses actual days and a stated day-count basis, convert the time using that agreement’s rule. This tool does not assume the terms of a real loan or deposit.
The method, explained
Interest = principal × annual rate × years ÷ 100 Final amount = principal + interest
The inputs use the units printed beside each field. Values shown in result cards are rounded for readability; the calculator keeps more precision while applying the formula.
A worked example
Principal: ₹1,00,000.00 · Annual interest rate: 8 % · Time: 3 years.
Final amount: ₹1,24,000.00
This example uses the inputs above. Your result changes when you change them.
Assumptions & limitations
- Rate is annual and principal stays unchanged.
- Repayments, instalments, penalties, tax and fees are not included.
- Do not use this as a reducing-balance EMI calculation.
Questions about this tool
Does interest earn further interest here?
No. That is the difference between this tool and the compound interest calculator.
Can I use a period shorter than a year?
Yes. Enter a decimal number of years, such as 0.25 for three months in a 12-month convention.
